It's finally here!! Our review of "Payback in Death." We are very happy to say that we all just loved this book! Starting with the first chapter where Eve and Roarke visit Roarke's family in Ireland during the last leg of their 3rd Anniversary Trip. Eve gives Roarke his anniversary present from her: A painting done by Yancy of Eve and Roarke surrounded by Roarke's Irish family, including his own mother, Siobhan, and also including Summerset and Galahad. This chapter really hit us all in the feels in a big way. It's emotional terrorism, but we loved every bit of it.

When Eve and Roarke finally make their way back to New York, Eve is called in on a case before they can even get their bags unpacked. Eve's a bit annoyed, but when she sees that the one calling in the murder is Webster, and that the person who is dead is Webster's former boss at IAB, and his mentor and father figure, Captain Martin Greenleaf, Eve can't say no.

The murder is set up to look like a suicide, and Eve's not buying it. And since the victim is the former head of IAB, Eve and the gang have to look at a ton of bad cops who might be involved, and the sheer amount of bad cops they look at is hard on everyone, especially Eve and Feeney. They both personally knew a couple of the cops they are looking at (Eve knows one "intimately," if you know what we mean), and there's a really great scene where Feeney comes to Eve just miserable about what he's seeing, and they commiserate over a burger from the auto chef.

Eve has a feeling very early on about who could be involved in this murder, so this is one of those books where we aren't shocked by a twist at the end, but follow Eve and the gang along as they figure out how the killer is connected.

Eve also has a run in with one bad cop who has it in for Eve and eventually physically assaults her, even punching her in the boob, which is a very low blow, and by the end of the day, everyone at Cop Central is talking about her boob.

Some really great moments in this book including Jenkinson passing his "Detective Sergeant" test, Eve going for a run on the treadmill using the VR goggles and encountering Zombies, an update on the "Great House Project," and Webster getting a happily ever after.

This book had everything you could want in a really great "In Death" book and we hope you all loved this book as much as we did!
