Show Notes

We're back with more "We Review the Reviews!" This time, we are reviewing the reviews of "Strangers in Death." There were a couple of things that people really hated about this book:
  1. People feel like Nora "plagiarized" Hitchcock with this book.
  2. People feel like "Eve Dallas is a total heartless bitch" and also "self-righteous, arrogant and insufferable" in this book.
As far as point one is concerned, we do not feel at all like Nora "plagiarized" Hitchcock. She did pay homage to his "Strangers on a Train," but there are vast differences. As to part two...well, maybe Eve wasn't great in this book, but we didn't feel like she was a total heartless bitch. She goes hard at Suzanne Custer, but Suzanne killed an innocent man, regardless of how abused she was. There is more complaining about Nora choosing to set this book in the future and how her future isn't the way reviewers want it to be. More complaining about Graphic Detail, and Bad Language. A dude complaining about how "The author also seems to assume that female readers will want to read petty side stories and will enjoy hearing about the main character's gorgeous husband and huge mansion and their fabulous life together." (Yep, we do. That's why this series is for US and not for YOU.) Of course, there's always at least one "This was my first Nora Roberts, and it will be my last."  There's a really weird take about how "Eve's take on relationships is always right. Good people (aka Charles) come around to agree with her. Bad people (like the murderer) are bad people, murder and go to jail." Um. Well. So, Eve's right? And along with the bad reviews we have some really good reviews including "The One Where Charles Retires," and "...this isn't the best of the series but it's still a solid, very enjoyable mystery." Plus, what would a "Review the Reviews" be without at least one good Susan Ericksen review by someone who feels that "Susan Erickson brings the characters to life." We agree! Overall, a fun installment of "We Review the Reviews."
